About Me:

Aya Mental Health Coaching was founded on a simple belief: that every person—regardless of background or circumstance—carries an innate capacity to heal, grow, and thrive. My name is Erin A. Francis, and I bring the rigor of clinical psychology and the warmth of person-centered care to every coaching relationship.

I'm a Mental Health Coach. I'm not a licensed Psychologist--yet. As such, I do not diagnose or treat mental illness, but can help you locate resources for these. Until I complete my training, I solely provide psychoeducation, accountability, mindfulness training, wellness information, and other help with goal achievement.

  • M.S. in Clinical Psychology, from an APA-accredited program

  • I have training & specialization interest in psychoneuroimmunology & health psychology, primarily with adults

  • My approach is informed by evidence-based interventions, such as mind-body techniques, cognitive-behavioral skills, and mindfulness. Speaking of mindfulness, my doctoral dissertation is an in-progress systematic review of mindfulness-based interventions for post-traumatic stress disorder ;-)

  • I'm committed to serving underserved communities

  • Self-proclaimed blerd!

  • Certifications and CE: coming soon!

The meaning behind the name:

Aya (pronounced eye-ah) is an Adinkra symbol originating from the Akan people of West Africa — a stylized image of the fern, one of nature's most resilient plants. The fern thrives in the harshest conditions: rocky soil, deep shade, relentless drought. It bends without breaking. It returns, season after season, to reclaim its ground.

The word aya carries a direct and powerful meaning: "I am not afraid of you." It is a declaration of endurance, defiance, and self-possession in the face of adversity.

This practice was named Aya because that is precisely what we believe about every person who walks through our door — that beneath the weight of stress, trauma, and struggle lives a self that is resilient, rooted, and unafraid. Our work together is simply the process of remembering that.
